I like the nature of the second one. I would suggest centering the logo/nav bar over the small text links in the blue footer. I am looking for some unity between the columns, and this might do it.

Also, as I mentioned in class, having some relevant text on the page is going to be key. Why not include just one line of text below your main image in the blue area (perhaps below the numbered navigation) that simply describes your site: "Original works of photography by Blake Larson, Annapolis, MD" or something similar? This will give people a geographical area, which might be very worthwhile.

During the critque I had a little trouble seeing parts of your image. Could you put it on a different color of something?

I really like the first comp. It is very clean and simple which is good because you can really focus on the images. I like your name logo...it looks very cool. I also like the big photo on the right, very attention-grabbing.

Love it, love it, love it.... (I know Jenn said we weren't supposed to just leave our critique at that, but hey, what can I say?)

I prefer the first one...stronger use of white space to accent your photos.

I like your use of the grid; it's very clean and stout. I think the faculty component is strong in how well it stands out and would be well received as a result and you achieve a clean and solid consistency across the content side of things over the rest of the page.

Sometimes it's a little trial and error :) I am glad you figured it out!

Navigation bar looks good - just watch the contrast on your type labels and the background gradient.

I'm glad you are finding Kuler useful! I find it incredibly diverse in it's uses - from paint chips to digital imaging!

Hi Blake,

I enjoyed your comments and insights. I will be tackling putting up a photo web site and I now it will be a big task given it will be my first.

Also - I laughed at your comment referencing architects: I once was knee deep in this community and do not miss it for one moment.

Remember that both the logo and some variation of "MyAACC" or "This is MyAACC" must be present in both of the examples.

The logo in the second one can be smaller - and the worm seems disturbingly large, in comparison to the tiny bird. If you are trying to show perspective, consider how you've drawn the bird, and how you can better adjust this part of the illustration.

The top one is simple, but what are you saying with it? Can you creatively fit in the logo, without detracting from the clean design? Perhaps as part of the background in some way?
